Question: Is Mobil 1 10W-30 a Good Choice for Dodge Manual Transmissions My 1993 Dodge W2500 has a manual 5-speed transmission and the manual calls for regular 30 weight motor oil in the tranny. Many people on the Dodge forums say Mobil 1 10W-30 works well in there. I'm wondering if it might be too thin and it doesn't have the GL rating either.  What do you recommend? -- Burt Wallace, Chapel Hill, NC Answer: If your manual calls for an engine oil, then you don’t need a GL rated gear oil. Mobil 1 10W-30 should work well in this application as it provides 30 grade performance like an SAE 30 grade oil.
