Question:
Should a Car Driven 11,000-Miles/Year Stay on Mobil 1 or be Switched to Extended Performance?
My BMW service indicator normally shows my car needs an oil change about every 17,000 miles. I only drive 11,000 miles per year, so I change the oil once a year and use Mobil 1 5W-30. Is there any real advantage in using Mobil 1 extended life synthetic in that situation, or is Mobil 1 sufficient for my application?
-- Victor Vynorius, LaGrangeville, NY
Answer:
We recommend you use Mobil 1 0W-40.  It is tested and proven in vehicles like your BMW.
