Question:
Explain Symbol on Oil Filter
On the side of the oil filter, there is a series of symbols. What does the symbol mean that has the drop of oil with the red line through it? Do not pre-ad oil to filter or lubricate the gasket?
-- Randy Siemens, Buffalo, NY
Answer:
No, you should pre-lube the gasket. The symbol is meant to indicate that after hand-tightening, you should not see oil leakage after running for a few seconds.
