Will 5W-30 'Overlubricate' a Newer Engine?

Question:
Will 5W-30 'Overlubricate' a Newer Engine?
I have a new Silverado K1500 with a Vortec 5.3L V8 SFI FlexFuel with the Active Fuel Management system. At the end of the break-in period, I would like to start using Mobil 1 5W-30 full synthetic like I already do in my '97 S-10 and both of my Corvettes ('89 C-4, '02 C-5). My dealer's service department does not recommend using full synthetic in this motor for the obscure reason that it may 'overlubricate' the engine. Never heard of that before. Is it OK to use your full synthetic oil in this motor?
-- Phillip Linn, Brighton, CO
Answer:
Yes, you can use Mobil 1 5W-30 with your vehicle and it will not ‘overlubricate’ the engine.
There are some people who used to think that synthetic oils were too slippery. This is a one of the many myths about synthetic oils. As good as it is for your Corvette, it is going to provide outstanding performance in your truck as well.
