Question:
Will Using a 0W-20 Oil Help Reduce Valve Noise During the Winter?
I have been using Mobil 1 5W-20 in a 2000 Honda Civic. However, when the weather gets cold here in Wisconsin, the car exhibits quite a bit of valve noise for about 1-2 minutes after starting. I would like to try 0W-20 in the winter months. Will it help with the valve noise? Will it hurt the engine?

Answer:
Using Mobil 1 0W-20 for your engine will help to get better cold-start flow.  0W-20 will provide better low temperature performance and should help to reduce valve train noise while still providing the “warmed-up” protection of the 5W-20 oil.  If this does not help you, your problem may not be flow but oil film thickness, in which case you may have to try a heavier 0W oil like 0W-30 or 0W-40.
