One of the many joys in my life is maintaining my car. Emotionally and
financially, I would rather have a well-maintained older car than a brand new
one. In my opinion, a way to help keep a car well maintained is to use Mobil 1
Extended Performance synthetic oil. So let me introduce you to my car. It is a
2000 Chevrolet Cavalier LS with the 150 HP, 2.4L DOHC engine (a Quad 4
derivation) and a 5-speed automatic transmission. When I ordered this car
years ago, I knew that with two children getting ready to go to college, I'd
have this vehicle for a long time as money was obviously going to be diverted
to their education. So even though Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-30 is more
expensive to purchase, I feel it pays off in ways that actually make it
cheaper in the long run than using non-synthetic oil. I currently follow
10,000-mile change intervals with Mobil 1 oil and I know that when I drain it,
it still has a lot of life and protection capability left. In fact, the oil in
it now has the prerequisite 10,000 miles on it and I plan on changing it this
weekend. The color is brown but still semi transparent, so I am beginning to
think I can go the full 15,000 miles with no concerns whatsoever.
Now, I know my Cavalier is not a sports car by any means. Heck, it was not
even that expensive to buy when new. But it does perform just the way I want
it to. I get 35 MPG cruising on the highway and when passing cars it will
gladly zip up to its 6400 RPM redline with no complaints. This car has had no
engine related problems in the nearly six years I have had it. I feel that
using Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil will help keep the engine running
smoother, provide superior lubrication, keep the engine internals cleaner and
allow it to run more efficiently than if I used any other brand of oil. I
fully expect to get more than 200,000 miles out of this car and will use Mobil
1 Extended Performance motor oil to ensure that I do.
