In the U.S., the Industry Performance Standard known as ILSAC GF-4 consists of a series of tests, which focus primarily on engine cleanliness, wear protection, emission system protection and fuel economy. The ILSAC GF-4 standard is designed to ensure an engine oil will deliver the proper level of protection when used at recommended oil drain intervals. Similar tests are conducted to meet the ACEA European Performance Standards.
